Hi! I'm Malia Hagen

It's nice to meet you!

We'll spend a lot of time in therapy finding out more about who you are and what your story is and I think it's only fair that you get to know some about me, too. Random facts:

My favorite vacation ever was to Swakopmund, Namibia. It's the cutest little beach town in the world and I would probably retire there if I didn't have kids.

I studied international business management and worked for 10 years before I became a therapist and have a minor in entrepreneurship and love supporting business owners.

Yoga is my happy place. Namaste.

About My Approach to Therapy

I believe that most therapeutic issues come down to relationships, which leads me to approach therapy from a Family Systems (Internal and External!) perspective from an Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB) lens. This starting place helps us understand our own reactions and biological needs both for safety for ourselves and our need for safe interpersonal relationships. This approach includes mindfulness, self-awareness, secure attachment, body consciousness, and
co-regulation. If that's enough for you to be ready to schedule a consultation, you can do that so we can connect. If you want to know more, see my approaches page because I can talk about this nerdy stuff ALL DAY.

More about My Approach

Texas Therapist

I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate in the GREAT state of Texas, supervised by Lacie J Hamilton, LPC-S.

I love being a therapist. What kind of person is it exactly that says that? I'm a bit extroverted for one thing--which just means that I am recharged through spending meaningful time with people--and I also feel inspired by making a difference in the world (ENFP over here!). You don't have to be an extrovert to get benefit from therapy, though. I believe that therapy is an exchange, I provide expertise on mental health, and you provide expertise on, well... you, and together I help you find the best you, which turns out is really fun for me to get to watch happen.

I also love being a Texan, which has only been the case for about a half a decade. I love the warm winters, the few cold days, the pools being open for six months out of the year. I love the kind people, I could do without the crazy driving, I love the wildflowers, and I LOVE the longhorns on the side of the interstate in Round Rock. Texas is my home now.
